La Diada de Sant Jordi

The day to honor Sant Jordi (Saint George) is celebrated every year on 23th of April and is pretty similar to Valentine’s Day. Among couples it is given according to old tradition – until today – a rose to the woman and a book to the man. Everywhere in the center of Barcelona you will find booths selling roses and books. Half of books sold yearly in Catalunya’s are sold in connection with Sant Jordi.

All day the city is filled with life and events can be found on many squares. It is the only day when the Palau de la Generalitat is open to the public.
